Facial Rejuvenation With Cosmetic Acupuncture
Can facial acupuncture really make you look younger?
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture, or cosmetic acupuncture, is a natural, non-surgical treatment to improve acne, rosacea, wrinkles, and skin elasticity. It is an application of traditional acupuncture and has been practiced for centuries.
Our face is a billboard for what is actually happening inside our body. Using acupuncture to treat irregularities and signs of aging not only results in skin that is tighter, smoother, and refreshed—but also is a powerful tool for treating underlying issues elsewhere in your system.
What can I expect during the treatment?
After a regular body acupuncture session to balance your Qi and organs, Dr. Ding will move on to the facial portion of the treatment, inserting 30 to 50 tiny needles on your face. The needles used in facial acupuncture are much finer and shorter than those used in regular body acupuncture, and almost all patients find that they are painless.
The tiny needles stimulate your lymphatic and circulatory systems, motivating them to work together to deliver nutrients and oxygen to your face, nourishing skin from the inside out. This helps even out your complexion and promote your skin’s glow. It also stimulates collagen production, which helps improve elasticity—ultimately shrinking fine lines and wrinkles.
How many sessions do I need?
The course of treatment consists of approximately 10-12 sessions. While each person responds differently to treatment, for most patients the effects of the treatments become most noticeable and lasting about midway through the series. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong the results for years.
Facial acupuncture is a natural modality, so side effects are minimal. The most common side effect—of facial acupuncture as well as of any kind of acupuncture—is bruising. This happens about 20% of the time. Unlike trauma-induced bruises, bruises from acupuncture recover very quickly and are a natural part of the healing and rejuvenation process.
